One Hundred Seconds
A therapist friend of mine has paid Zach Shapiro to create a one-hundred-second video about her practice. I was a minor actor in the video (she couldn't, of course, use actual patients in the video). So I got to watch this young man do his thing--principally one video camera, with a tracking tripod and a monitor; one back-up camera; and a lighting man to set up the lights before he started. He shoots about eight hours of video, he talks to the client about their business, he distills the essence of what they do--seeking out visuals that tell the story. And then: the real genius. He edits with a feeling for each client, finding a way, with words and images, to tell the particular story of what that client is offering to the world. I think he's amazing. If you'd like to see some of his 100-second videos of everything from restaurants to architectural consultants to art therapists: here's his website. And if that really fascinates the photographer in you and you want to hear more, here's a radio interview with him.
