Distant Smarties

Black & white smarties are definitely not 'my cup of tea'!  (Colour versions here.) They are distant from the camera lens and viewed through a layer of oil and water.  A very short journal this evening as I need to dash out to a choir rehearsal.

Lose A Letter
I came across this interesting word progression and thought it could make some challenging blips. It is the only word in the English language where you can take away one letter each time and get right down to a word with only one letter. I'll let you work out your day's challenge word from the clues, and then the last two in the sequence!
