The carpet blaggers.....

Doris loves a bargain.

Today, he visited a middle eastern carpet retailer because there's a sale on. (And just in case that sentence confused anyone, the carpets are middle eastern, not the retailer. By the sound of his accent, he's come straight from Eton.....)

Anyway, Doris found a rather modest little runner that he thought might look good in his hall. Summoning the assistant, he said 'Can you tell me something about this carpet please?', whereupon the salesman launched into his spiel about hand knotted threads, wool dyed in organic yaks' milk, blah blah, and ended his pitch with the words, 'and it's 389.'

This struck Doris as rather expensive for what seemed like quite an ordinary rug, so he said, 'I assume that 389 is the full price, yes? So what's the sale price please?'

The salesman looked appalled. 'The price, sir,' he said disdainfully, 'is 1789 pounds......389 is the length!'
