Rush Hour Waterloo Bakerloo Line
The Baker Street and Waterloo Railway (BS&WR) which became the Bakerloo Line was opened on 10 March 1906.
It has been established in 1893 but had troubled finding funding, with collapse of its original parent company through fraud. The BS&WR became a subsidiary of the Underground Electric Railways Company of London (UERL) which was controlled by the American financier Charles Yerkes. The UERL raised funds from mainly foreign investors.
So the Bakerloo was built by an American with foreign funding!
On opening the Bakerloo ran from Baker Street to Elephant and Castle. Curiously passenger numbers did not live unto the optimistic early estimates. This was principally because of competition from electric trams and motor buses on the surface.
No danger of that these days - certainly at the rush hour as this photo from Friday morning shows.
