The Red Lichtie

Stormy Day

Missed being out at high tide (probably just as well as the sea was so wild we would have got soaked) but we had to go out a couple of hours later so took a drive down to the Victoria park and then the harbour. As we were driving along the park I spotted a nice vantage point to take a photo so stopped and attempted to get out the car. As soon as the door was open just a crack the wind was trying to open it fully so we decided that the sensible thing to do was drive along and turn the car then try and get out with the wind trying to close the door rather than pull it off its hinges! We drove along to the end of the park and stopped in the shelter of the toilet block and got out the car. As soon as Stina and I went round the corner of the building we were hit by the wind. It was blowing diagonally ashore from the sea and so strong that it was difficult to breathe if you faced into it. We spent about 5 minutes taking photos before we admitted defeat and headed back to the car. We then went round to the harbour and took a few more photos looking over to the breakwater. I really wouldn't like to be out on a boat today. Even the boats in the marina part of the harbour were rolling quite violently from side to side although they were sheltered behind the dock gate.

Although the sea looks pretty wild in the photo, it looked a lot wilder close to!
