Domestic
The slightest excuse will keep us
snug indoors
and we’re both expert sleepers
but we broke the usual routine
and ventured out by 10.15.
The few tasks we’d set ourselves
(buy some storage boxes, visit the bank)
were soon accomplished
and it wasn’t long before we were home
and food dished up. We were famished.
So now, with a long afternoon ahead,
I can gaze at the sky,put some music on
and contemplate the dream I had
about saying I’d accompany someone
from my past to a meeting I managed to miss.
I took a wrong turning and got lost.
The new -fangled phone I’d been given
wasn’t working, or at least
I couldn’t get it to work, and, of course,
the toilet I desperately needed to use
had a door that wouldn’t lock,
(that’s always the case)
and no excuse
was going to be good enough
for the person I’d let down…
Wake me up
