The Resurrection - St John the Evangelist

Church cleaning this morning!  So I took the opportunity of taking a photo of a piece that I particularly like.

This is the final panel of a way of the cross designed and sculpted by Ray Schofield, of Overton near Lancaster  (1925 – 2004).  It was made as a memorial to his parents and depicts Christ in majesty and glory, showing the wounds of his passion.  The sins and suffering of all mankind are depicted by the small crosses that make up the background in this panel.  To me they also show his feelings at the death of his parents.  This panel is hung above the tabernacle and I’ve always loved it.
