Mine! It's all mine!
He is a handsome bird, providing a bright spot of color on a winter day, especially when there is a little snow in the scene. However, the northern cardinal can also be very possessive. If there is birdseed on the fence post, he is usually the first to spot it. Just look at how effectively he claims ownership of the post, and he is very clever at chasing away the titmice, chickadees, and sparrows. However, he (and his mate), rarely challenge the blue jay or red-bellied woodpecker. Tuesday's blip, seen here, shows who is really in charge in our woodland, but today Mr. Cardinal was in control.
