To Let You Out or Keep You In?

Speaking metaphorically, there are people who stand at the door longing to be outside with all the adventure it offers, yet who are so terrified of the unknown- of what might be required of them in that different place- that they will not open the door. Despite being unhappy where they are, they will stay there because it is known, predictable and safe. For onlookers, it is incredibly frustrating.
