Madness
I have just experienced the maddest evening of my life!
Some years ago an American from South Carolina visited Vietnam and settled here. He noticed that the locals were discarding their Vespa scooters and replacing them with proper motorcycles so he started buying all the Vespas he could find at a knock-down price.
He then put all these Vespas to work by setting up a business called Vietnam Vespa adventures which runs a number of excursions based on being driven on motor scooters. We went on one called 'Saigon after dark'.
It was totally bonkers. I absolutely loved it but it has to be said that Technophobe was less enthusiastic.
We were picked up at our hotel by two Vespa riders who drove us at speed through the manic Saigon traffic, visiting a number of eateries along the way where we experienced genuine local food ranging from pancakes to frogs legs. We saw the frogs jumping around shortly before they were served up to us like KFC.
After stuffing ourselves we were taken to two night spots. The first was an upstairs cafe bar with some very good singers. The second was an in-your-face rock-n-roll bar where the lead guitarist would have given Hendrix a run for his money.
Unfortunately Jane hated the scooter ride which was a shame as it was quite safe as the drivers were extremely skilful. It probably helps that I used to ride a motorcycle.
The picture shows the back view of Jane clinging on for dear life during one of the drives.
Fantastic evening's entertainment!
