Uhhh...
I have no idea what this is doing in our fridge. It's not something B's ever shown interest in.
Oh well! I guess he's trying new things!
I can't stand pineapple, so that's one thing I really don't mind being allergic to.
Update:
As this was posted in the morning, things change, just like they always do.
I've discovered that Nova has a cough and is congested. First thing to do was to give him benadryl and use his inhaler. That didn't do anything but make him tired and jittery at the same time (albuterol makes him very jittery).
So I called up the vet to ask if guaifenesin was safe to give to cats. Yes, it is, but only at a very small dosage in comparison to humans. I have a huge 400mg tablet of guaifenesin. I need to somehow cut it small enough for it to only be 20mg.
And to make it even more difficult, in medicine here in the US, we use a lovely messed up combination of standard and metric. My brain really doesn't have the capacity to deal with metric. I've tried, and before I was in so much pain and so medicated, I did fairly decently at it. But in my current state, I just can't.
So I'm informed that the dose of guaifenesin for a cat is 3mg for every kilogram. I...don't know how many kilograms Nova is. I think I remember how many pounds he was last time he was weighed, but the idea of I think I know how much he weighs scares me. I don't want to improperly dose my precious Nova baby.
So the tech looked up Nova's weight and told me how much he weighed in kilograms so I could dose him properly. He said he wouldn't give Nova more than the recommended dose, but if that was impossible to measure (due to medication dosage cups being all different and there being no real standard for how much each individual dose cup needs to measure) he said that if it made it easier, he read that there has never been a documented case of a dosage of 50mg or lower hurting a cat.
Well...that's over double the dose that Nova should be getting. Easier or not, I'm not willing to more than double the dose he requires. I'm just not gonna take that risk. Nova's never had guaifenesin before. I don't know if he's sensitive to it or not. If he's sensitive to it and I give him such a large dose? If something happened to Nova I would never forgive myself.
So now I'm trying to find children's guaifenesin products with lower dosages that don't have any additional medications mixed in (because cats are VERY sensitive to medications and you should NEVER give them a medication with an active ingredient that you know is safe but has other ingredients you didn't ask your vet about) that maybe B could pick up on the way home so I can give them to Nova.
This pill may be huge, but I'm not entirely sure I can cut it to the appropriate size.
I do have a rather impressive pill cutter, though. So here's hoping!
I would take Nova to the vet instead if it were at all possible, but it's not for the next couple days. Even with their extended hours.
Please hope/pray for Nova's quick recovery!
