Love Is in the Air

Today was the first of the three once-a-month winter farmers' markets, where I was enchanted by these charming squirrel pins, crafted from recycled fabrics, and thought they deserved a moment in the spotlight.

They also provide a segue to what Phil and I will be doing tomorrow -- we're going to Seattle for the wedding of two of our good friends, and spending the night at the hotel where the celebration will be held.

We'll be doing some photos for the happy couple at this low-key, intimate wedding (24 guests), and I'll also be reading a poem during the ceremony. I think it's a particularly lovely one, made more so by having met the poet, James Bertolino, who lives here, and want to share it with you.

A WEDDING TOAST

May your love be firm,
and may your dream of life together
be a river between two shores--
by day bathed in sunlight, and by night
illuminated from within. May the heron
carry news of you to the heavens, and the salmon bring
the sea's blue grace. May your twin thoughts spiral upward
like leafy vines, like fiddle strings in the wind,
and be as noble as the Douglas fir.
May you never find yourselves back to back
without love pulling you around
into each other's arms.
