The Witch

This is a sculpture in Prestonpans, by the artist Andy Scott, the same artist who created the Heavy Horse on the M8, and most recently, the Kelpies on the M9.

This sculpture commemorates the 16 women of Prestonpans who were accused and executed for witchcraft in the 1600's. Interestingly, it is comprised of metal "leafs", which sumbolise the herbal remedies of the time, the use of which was deemed to be "witchcraft".
