A successful fishing trip!
I went for a walk along the Montgomery Canal today. The surface was frozen - moorhens were skating on the ice trying to find food. There were lots of birds around including a pair of bullfinches and long tailed tits.
We were thrilled to see a kingfisher flying along the canal but it must have been impossible to catch fish through it. It started to rain and we sheltered under a canal bridge when we couldn't believe our eyes - a kingfisher landed on a garden wall near the bridge we watched it diving in and twice caught a fish. It caught the second while the first was still in it's beak. There was a big patch of unfrozen water there so that it could fish. We were so lucky to be in the right place at the right time! Thank goodness that I had my long lens with me, I don't always as it's heavy to carry around.
