Vintage maps
We took a trip to Avebury this afternoon and within sight of the prehistoric stone circle was a gentleman selling vintage maps from a run of about half a dozen trestle tables. They ran the length and width of the UK, sorted mainly by edition.
As someone with a barely inadequate sense of direction, I'm a fan of maps. They never fail in hilly areas and help me both with the daily mundane and the planning of dreams (insofar as you can plan a dream). My favourite map is an OS one that was custom printed with my postcode near to the centre and the title "Sunny day getaways - because the housework can wait". Indulgent certainly, but also practical as Devizes falls in a corner of the regular OS maps, thus often requiring two or more to plan a short trip.
The map-man seemed to be doing well today, there was a lot of interest.
