Thaw, Freeze Processes.
Geographers know about "Freeze, thaw processes," which can split rocks and send them tumbling down mountains. But the production of these tiny glass-like sculptures on plants of north facing hillsides, is not something I have thought about before. The snow must be thawed, but not too much, then the drops frozen in situ into ice caterpillars. More on Flickr if you like:
