Mystery object (What the...?!)

Greetings, gentle reader,

Having received this as a gift, I am morally obliged to write a thank-you letter to the very kind and no-doubt-well-intentioned person who bestowed it upon me. However, I have no wish to cause offence by asking them what it actually is or does. Maybe I lack lateral thinking skills, but 'blingy turkey which opens up in the middle' doesn't immediately present with an obvious function to me.

So I throw my question out to the universe....anyone on blip have any suggestions why the blingy turkey would open up?
