30 years ago, the summer of 1985, we were taking part in a Treasure `Hunt around East Leicestershire , following clues. An additional task we had to accomplish was to find a £1 note. They were rapidly disappearing from circulation following the introduction of the £1 coin in 1983. I picked this up in a pub - they had one left `I think - and it has lain in my wallet as a lucky £1 ever since.

Looking frayed around the edges, the commonplace made a bit less so by time.
