East London square
We were at the Royal London Hospital again today and had time before my appointment to call in at the Whitechapple Gallery, just along the road - mainly for the upmarket cafe, but also to take a brief look at their big new exhibition 'Adventures of the Black Square'. This show is all about geometric abstraction - basically, how squares have featured in art around the world over the last 100 years. I found it quite inspiring and have chosen to feature this example...discovered and entirely curated by me...in the gents toilet in the basement! Hope you like the tension of that slight perspective, the grounded-ness of that textured and stained concrete, the shock of that white floating shape, the playfullness of those exposed fixings in the four corners...there is so much to say...
