The Merchant Hotel
In Belfast to celebrate my birthday with friends, what better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than cocktails at the Merchant. This magnificent Grade A listed building used to house the headquarters of the Ulster Bank. It was built around 1860 and the central feature of the main banking hall is this splendid domed ceiling complete with crystal chandelier. Around the walls are friezes featuring cherubs and clusters of fruit. It also has four Corinthian pillars. Well worth seeing if you visit Belfast.
The cocktails are great too!
