Derelict Thursday.......

........................Hop Kiln

Crumbling and being held together with a corner to corner wire brace it appears to be used as a storage facility for firewood.

This derelict building which is in Upper Moutere (originally called Sarau by its founding German settlers) is a locality in the Tasman District near Nelson at the top of New Zealand's South Island.

Many thanks to Himself  for hosting this challenge.

Hops
- were brought to Nelson, New Zealand in the 1840’s by early immigrants from southern England and Germany
- they found this region had an ideal climate to cultivate hops.
- all the hops for New Zealand are grown here.
- they are world-renowned with 80 percent of the crop exported.
Further information on the history of the hop industry in NZ can be read here.

Thank you for the comments, stars and hearts for yesterday’s blip.
Nelson provided another sunny summer’s day as our visiting family left for their home in Wellington. On our way to Nelson and the airport we stopped at Jester House, Tasman for a late morning tea/ early lunch.  The children helped feed the tame eels and loved exploring the unique garden and interactive wooden sculptures.   Our home is so quiet this evening!
