Masonic Hall
The Seaham Harbour Masonic Hall was built on North Road in 1874, other events in that year included the Mill Inn Election Riots, an anti-Tory protest at the fact that Seaham miners and other local workers were denied the vote. The Riot Act was read to the crowd, police and soldiers were brought in and the protestors headed for the Mill Inn where they beat up the landlord and wrecked the pub (probably because he had a 'vote Conservative' poster in the window).
In 1880 164 men and boys were killed in an explosion at Seaham Colliery.
