The Way To A Man's Heart

The Christmas cake is just down to a few crumbs now so the resident builder asked for some sort of replacement. It seems that date slice will do the job nicely.
This recipe comes from a booklet I have from Woman and Home, dated 1989. The recipes come from various cafes around the UK - I wonder how many are still up and running.
