"The Crinan Canal for me"
Thanks to fellow blipper snapper for the info on "Highland Voyage" cd from the Celtic Connections performance. This 1963 recording is brilliant and one of several favourite songs is the "The Crinan Canal for me" sung by John Grieve
"Para Handy" by Neil Munro is a book of often very funny short stories about life on a puffer, These little boats carried coal, cement, barley etc. to villages and piers on the Clyde islands and lochs before the days of good roads and car ferries also to West Highlands returning with whisky, slates timber etc.
Three postcards of puffers in the Crinan Canal complete the blip. This canal crosses Kintyre peninsula making a shortcut from Loch Fyne to West Highland waters allowing small boats to avoid a long and potentially tricky voyage round the Mull of Kintyre
