Cardiff Central Station.
This Grade II listed building constructed from Portland Stone was opened in 1850 when South West railways opened a route from Gloucester to Swansea. Isambard Kingdom Brunel was the engineer in charge. In 1849 he altered the course of the river Taff to its present position West of the station in order to increase the size of the site for the station to be built. The Millennium Stadium and Cardiff Arms Park now stand on the site of the old river bed. The station is recognised as the longest and busiest in Wales serving around 12 million passengers annually.
