Freecamp Gillespies

Found an amazing little free camping spot beside the beach with basic facilities. Along the west coast the beaches are dramatic, covered head to toe with driftwood and the waves are huge. It’s been blue skye all the way (someone said if you get sun in this area your the luckiest traveler in the world!). We went on a four hour mission through rain forest to find a seal colony, the path was quite stream like and most of the journey was spent trying to figure out how to travel along the various rocks and logs, loads of fun. We arrived at the beach, it has three beautiful waterfalls, strong waves and a very high tide so didn’t push on any further. When we stopped to consider our options an Elk (or something similar) came charging towards Simone at full pelt, such a dramatic and scary sight, they have some serious power! She jumped out of the way.

Drove for another handful of hours until we reached Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, watched the sunset with a crowd at the beach and found a quite campsite, big day.
