The Wild Wolds
A trip out t'Lincolnshire Wolds today. At one point I stood on the highest point of the Wolds but the resulting photo was a bit rubbish - a line of grass and a line of sky so I thought I'd jazz things up with a mourning cherub.
He is from the tomb of Sir George St Paul and Frances Wray in St Lawrences Church, Snarford and holds an "extinguished torch of mortality". St Lawrences, which dates back to the 12th century is no longer in use owing to the village and manor house it was built to serve no longer existing so it sits pretty much in the middle of nowhere. It does house some pretty incredible tombs though.
The St Pauls were big noises in Lincolnshire in the 1400s and 1500s and did many good things but were clearly a bit flash and their very loud, brash tombs scream money but no class!
In other news there were scones with jam and cream, and hot chocolate.
