A Day Worth Recording

A's 80th birthday and the start of the Weekend of Cakes

A arrived with C & J around lunchtime followed by tea and presents.  Sadly C&J's large present, still in its original packing, had suffered at the hands of the courier and was in more pieces than a pot should be.  A replacement is en-route we gather.  Lunch was augmented by a triple-decker cream and strawberry sponge C  had made.

In the afternoon, E and I attended the 'handfasting' ceremony of two Friends at the Meeting House.  Not a conventional marriage, not even a Quaker one, but an exchange of pledges before family and friends, and, as in Quaker weddings, we all signed a copy of the pledges.

While here we sneaked in the 80 cake to be shared at Meeting tomorrow.

Back home we went out for a meal at The Lord Byron, formerly The Unicorn, pub in Trumpington. Another excellent and good value meal from the newish proprietors - highly recommended.  This also involved cake -  a smaller '80' cake decorated by son J.

Watched the later part of the Chelsea v. Munich final (...of something). That'll be my TV football fill for 2012 - actually quite enjoyed it but bladder-manipulation hype and theatrics don't especially engage more than the few braincells that lie in the dusty corners of my mind.

We won - I gather that's rare.

C & J headed home. A's staying on here for a few days.
