Ahoy-hoy!
Another day another walk on the other side of the A3. Amazing the things you find that you never knew existed.
This is a semaphore tower, about the last of its kind. Built in the 1820's this was used to send messages from the Naval dockyards in Portsmouth to the Admiralty in Whitehall.
It was occupied up till the early 1960's before falling into disrepair. Fortunately thanks to the amazing efforts of a local group it has been restored.
A wonderful bit of history to discover.
