Watch this space

The walk beside the estuary and in behind the cemetery has a wide variety of trees. As my bird photos today fairly ordinary I thought these purple berries on a pseudopanax were worth a blip. On screen, closeup, I saw there were some insect eggs on the leaf. Now what could they be from?
I will keep an eye on them and see if they hatch. We were following a bird when we found the tree so the eggs may not survive.
(Not sure if my id of the tree is correct either-please tell me if you beg to differ).
