The Gatehouse.

Today at last, we had sunshine. I   washed  the bedclothes, and put them out on the line to dry . I love to see my washing  out on the line, blowing in  the wind. sad i know   The guy from the hobby shop phoned J ,to say that a part he had ordered yesterday had come in, so as you can imagine ,he went to collect it. I stayed home ,as i  had a lot of jobs around the house i wanted to do.  When he got back we had some lunch, and then we went for a drive to Southerndown.  We stuck to the path today ,and luckily for me, no dogs jumped up on me and wiped their muddy paws over my coat. This is the gatehouse, to what would have been Dunraven Castle, which was a part of the Dunraven Estate. The castle was built  in built in 1803, and demolished in 1963.  In 1642,the mansion was sold to the Wyndham family. Thomas Wyndham of Dunraven, was MP for Glamorgan from 1789 to his death in 1814.The estate then  passed to his daughter, Caroline, who in 1810 had married the Irishman Windham Henry Quinn,  later 2nd Earl of Dunraven in 1815 he assumed the additional name of Wyndham in right of his wife, becoming ,Windham Wyndham-Quinn.  It was lived in until after the Second World War, having been used as a military hospital.  It was such a shame it was demolished ,as it was an impressive sight , perched on the cliff top at Southerndown.
