Mudeford Quay

D drove me down to catch the sunset and get me out of the house for a break. It was a lovely sunset and I captured some nice shots but walking around the corner out of the wind I was struck by the interesting shapes of the dinghy pile identified to be claimed or destroyed. The sunset was by now fading in the distance behind Hengistbury Head.

The black cottage in the left of the picture has been the subject of a planning wrangle recently. Purchased by the ex leader of the Council he has argued that it is unhinhabitable and has submitted plans for a modern replacement. These cottages have been on the Quay for centuries and are previous fishermans cottages. The one on the right was significantly more dilapidated but has been tastefully renovated recently without destroying the original building. The application for the black one has been rejected twice with significant local opposition and I hope the owner will be forced to renovate the original building or sell to someone who will. It is a wonderful location for a home but we need to respect the history of the area.
