Canyon to the Falls

Today for our walk the dogs and I headed up the Kowhai Stream once more, this time branching off the main flow where we met the receding stream up a canyon which I've dubbed 'Cicada Canyon' on account of the deafening call of cicadas ringing out from the forest above.

We climbed our way up the rocky stream until we reached a bolder dam. Behind the blockage in the stream I could hear the unmistakeable sound of a waterfall. After looking at the topomap when I got home I have deduced that it must be Emily Falls that is feeding the stream.

My next plan is to walk to the falls via the trail, rather than the river, to see if my assumptions are correct!
