Hanging on by a thread

This summer has certainly been hot - the plants in the garden are suffering and some are beginning to lose their battle.  Flowers are wilting, leaves are dropping and the grass is browning.  About the only things that are surviving and even thriving, are the weeds.  I took to those growing in the lawn today with vinegar.  By the end of the day they were well and truly browned off too.  I hope it gets through to the roots.

In the meantime, I am hanging on to the last days of my holiday by a thread too.  Back to work - albeit a sedate and part-time return - on Monday.
