The Vital Spark

This afternoon we drove through to Dundee to visit my wife's sister who is recovering from an operation in Nine Wells Hospital.

While walking through to the ward I noticed a number of interesting artworks in the corridors.

The middle section of fabulous triptych of The Vital Spark caught my eye. The three panels were created by Véronique Wechtler who graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art, University of Dundee, in June 1995.

Inspired by the seascapes of the North of Scotland, Véronique (from Metz in France) has contrasted the darkness of the sea with the vital sparks of light from the Tarbat Ness Lighthouse, in a portrayal of the caring role of humanity. She hopes that her imagery will conjure up inner landscapes and dreams which will reflect finding comfort after confusion. Such an amazing work of art and I hope it gives joy to those that see it.

Véronique donated the panels to Ninewells Hospital as a thank you for the care she received at Ninewells after an accident which endangered her sight.

It has been a busy week, and after the drive to Dundee I am totally exhausted. So after a late evening meal, sitting down relaxing with a lovely glass of red wine.
