The Frick

Slightly out of synch due to the time difference between NYC and London. However Saturday I visited The Met and the Frick, the latter being, I think, my favourite gallery. It has something of everything: Constable, Holbein, Turner, Boucher, Vermeer, etc etc. The Vermeer on this postcard is one of my favourite paintings: Mistress and Maid. What is the story? The difference in class between the two women is clear. but the leveller is the letter. What is the secret that the two women share that is contained in the letter?
