Stepping into history

This morning I went out with my walking group. There was a large turnout - probably because the weather was mild and the forecast is for it to get worse as the week progresses.

We did a walk around village lanes, we've been there before but it's a good circular that doesn't involve soggy fields.

This footstep is carved into the garden wall of a house that we passed. It's very old and apparently was done by a shoemaker/ repairer. No-one appears to be certain if it was an itinerant shoemaker or if he lived at the house. One of life's little historical mysteries!
