vespa - and not the two-wheeled variety!

...every year, we have dozens of paper wasp nests in our garden store. The wasps themselves are actually very friendly but they do build their nests in the weirdest of places. By this time in May, the nests are usually much larger than this and full of activity, but the cool spring seems to have delayed things a bit. If I have my facts correct, what looks like aggressive behaviour by the one beating its wings is actually the way they regulate the temperature of the developing eggs/pupae...
