Liberty Lane

Some writing this morning, mainly working on another draft of my commissioned poem for the children's poetry project , Once Upon A Place. The brief is to write a poem/story for children on a place in Dublin that has some special significance for the writer. This gave me the idea/image for another couplet:

Once upon a time, a space, there was no dawn
to walk/gallop/drive into –– just once upon

Later, I drove into town to collect my printed/framed photograph from Fire Design, which I am submitting to the Dún Laoghaire Open Competition/Exhibition in the Lexicon Municipal Gallery. I'm submitting this one.

After taking a turn off Camden Street, I stopped opposite what I discovered was Liberty Lane, completely wallpapered in lurid, and often quite fluid/skillful, graffiti, a similar decor-job to the streets near the old Windmill Lane Studios. The zippy colours are enjoyable in the way that a catchy pop tune is, but I think I'd soon tire of them. Better the bare canvas, the old scabrous bricks and mortar that a slice of sharp-shadowed sunlight came render marvelous.

Back home, Sam had to head to a meeting and I lay down for forty winks, having had only a few hours sleep. I was cooking a late supper when the boy came in, complaining of a headache. No ice packs in the freezer so I made him one out of frozen beans and gave him some Neurofen. He seemed alright going to bed. Probably anxiety about his mum traveling off again on Wednesday (only for one night though).
