Switzerland
We're on our way to Zermatt which lies at the foot of the Matterhorn. We're not going for the ski-ing, but for curling. There has been an outdoor Swiss / Scots competition going on for at least 20 years and we've joined a group of regulars for this exciting competition. The Tennis court in the town centre is converted into the curling rink so there is no danger of falling through the ice although the curling is very tricky as the ice has a mind of its own.
We had a good journey although it had begun to snow just as we left home at 5.15 am, which made the trip into Glasgow airport a bit precarious especially as the taxi driver seemed to be oblivious to the road conditions. We arrived in Geneva Airport around 11.30 and after picking up our bags we made our way to the train station underneath the airport and caught the 13.30 train to Zermatt, changing to the regional train at Wisp where we waited only 10 minutes. The drive around Lake Geneva was beautiful and the scenery on the regional train spectacular.
we met up with the others in the group about 17.30 and were warmly welcomed into the group who all knew each other from previous years. We also met up with some Swiss curlers whom we had met in Lausanne when we curled there in October. The blip was taken from the train travelling just north of Lausanne and as you can see there is little snow in this area.
