The Mississppi from Mill City

I was lucky enough to join Evan at his field trip to the Mill City Museum today.  The museum sounds boring, but it's quite amazing.  The museum has been modernly built up around the ruins of the Gold Medal Flour Mill which burned during a fire during the 90's.  Large rusty machinery, crumbling brick walls, and remains of broken windows encase and surround the museum's beautiful stain glass window with images of wheat fields.  It's modern classroom, water lab, and kitchen give students a hands-on experience of history.

But my favorite is the mill elevator.  You enter a large elevator that takes lifts you up and down while you view floors of the mill where each part of the flour-making process happened, all the while listening to narration of the history of the mill, including old clips of actual employees.  The end of the tour drops you off at the top of the mill where you can look out over the Mississippi River.  It is quite a view, as you can see.
