Wound up in Wexford

Home of horseracing

I dragged myself off my sick bed at 6.30 this morning to drive down to Newmarket for a study day.  I coughed and spluttered my way through it, finding that it was actually quite well worth the effort.  It was held at the Rowley Mile Conference Centre.

The weather was pretty grim.  Those who - like Noel Coward - think Norfolk is flat should try coming to Newmarket - see the panorama.  The wind was blowing, very coldly, straight off the North Sea, and with no hills between the sea and Newmarket, it was fierce. We also had rain, in the form of stair rods during the morning.  By the time we were eating lunch, the sun had come out, and several of us were braving the wind and wandering around with cameras.

I didn't get a picture of a live horse - there were plenty around, including a bunch holding up the traffic as I was driving to the venue, but it's difficult to drive and take photos at the same time.  I couldn't come to Newmarket and not have a picture of a horse.

There was also a lovely moon, blipped by others this evening.

I am not sure why there was a lot of work going into covering some of the course in plastic.
