Battle of the Perch

I live in such a densely populated wooded area in Southwestern Connecticut, and the variety of birds who make their home near our residences are often times quite scrappy or chippy when it comes to scouring for food.

The Sparrows are greedy and you can often view them at the bird feeder for 10-15 minutes at a time. They intend to get their fill. I've tried shushing them away to give way to other species to get some food. They often look at me with a blank stare while continuing their feeding.

When other bird species get restless and try to invade the feeder, often times very tense standoffs occur with the Sparrow usually being the victor. In this case, a Titmouse appears to be up for the challenge and doesn't back down. The eye to eye stare down is a priceless moment.
