COAST GUARD RESCUE
After golf this morning, I headed to the beach partly to work on a plumbing problem. After some fruitless crawling under the house, I loaded the dogs and headed for the jetty. When I got to the rocks where I blip the Pelicans, There were just a bunch of guys with orange suits out there. A fire truck and ambulance were standing by. While walking to the beach I asked someone what was up. He said that some poor fellow had fallen on the rocks, and must be in a bad way, because they had been out there a long time.
While walking on the beach, and waiting for the sunset, the Coast guard chopper started circling around me. I was getting great shots of him, which is usually hard for me to do. Then he went down where the guy was on the rocks, and just hovered there in one place. So I was hustling that way, while taking sunset shots over my back.
So, briefly here is what happened in the next two hours. They lowered a Coast guard guy down in a stretcher. This is in my picture. They flew around for a long time. Then they hoisted the victim up, I figured that they would fly him to the hospital. They flew a circle almost back to where they started, lowered a line to the Coast guard guy on the road, and then the stretcher with the victim in it. They put the guy in the ambulance, and then they hoisted the Coast Guard guy up, and flew away. I ran out of light toward the end.
These guys sure know there business, but they are a lot faster in the movies. I suspect that the guy was wedged in the rocks, and had something serious broken. I have no idea why they didn't fly him to the hospital. It is less than a half mile away.
