What type of spider is this??!

It was about 1-2 cms in this position - didn't see it at full leg span so probably 2-2.5 cms at a guess. The markings are quite unusual to the normal house spider you see - dark brown body with 2 large black spots on either side of its back and then another few spots at the bottom of its back. If anyone could deceper this species i would be interested to know :)
