Shibuya Crossing
On my last night back in Tokyo I went to Shibuya crossing, the iconic area that everyone thinks of when they think of Tokyo. Huge towering buildings dripping with neon lights and vast screens displaying adverts, their sounds systems competing with each other above the clamour from the throng of people below. The crossing goes five ways across the street including diagonally so when the light goes green, a wave of pedestrians is released travelling in every direction. It works quite well, the only people that seem to mess up the system are the tourists stopping for photos.
This photo doesn't go very far at all towards doing the scene justice. The sound is about 80% of the experience and you'd need a panoramic shot to take it all in but I couldn't go to Tokyo and not try and blip the neon.
