Deadletter tree

I saw this tree-stump on one of my walks around the campus and I thought immediately that it is a perfect prop for a John le Carre film where the spy drops the microfilm in the hollow tree for his/her contact to pick up... ah well, I guess I have watching too many espionage film noir.... is that possible?
