Sailing down the river......

.......on a Sunday afternoon.......

And the race is on! Who will make the buoy first?! The 'happy' sail snuck round and was away like lightening!
 
It is National Sailing and Boating Day with all ages competing and having loads of fun.  A light breeze was refreshing as the temperature rose to 29C, much nicer to be down by the river than sweltering inside at home. 
 
The Waimakariri River provided leisure for many today. Plenty of people fishing from the banks, others boating, quite a few jet skis on the water. Families were picnicking under the shade of the trees and strolling along the banks or out to the beach, also plenty of seagulls.
 
Lovely way to spend the first day of February.
