An escapee Eagle Owl

This wonderful bird has taken up residence near a cousin. He is carrying traces or tags or whatever they are called round his ankles. Beautiful haunting voice (worth a listen!) that echoes round the wood.  I gather the downside of his company is the threat to the red squirrels and the downside for him is he is the only one.

He has been reported in the papers but no one has come forward to claim him. So if there is a falconer out there who would like an eagle owl let me know.

It was very hard to get this shot. The owl was very high in the tree. The light was very low and we were standing in deep snow in a HOWLING gale! Perishingly cold.
