Grisedale valley
A great day in the mountains. Lots of snow and bright sunshine. It was incredibly cold at times, and the snow was treacherous in places - a thin meringue crust ready to break at your tread, and plunge you thigh-deep into soft snow or underlying bog. Made for an interesting climb, and an early, exhausted bedtime.
This picture shows the upper reaches of the Grisedale valley, with Dollywagon Pike the pointy bit in the middle right. If you look carefully you can see the Ruthwaite Lodge mountain hut towards the bottom right, dwarfed into insignificance by the surrounding mountains.
